Youth Group

Youth Group is for 9th-12th graders. Throughout the year, they have a variety of activities.

Weekly Gatherings

The Youth Group meets in the Crypt from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every Wednesday during the school year.  Each week the youth play games, share a meal, enjoy fellowship and discuss a spiritual reflection.

Youth Group Retreats

The youth group holds three retreats a year; one in the fall, one in the spring, and one in the summer. During the retreats the youth spend time with one another engaged in trust and community building exercises. They develop closer relationships with one another as a result of these experiences.

Teens Encountering Christ

Teens Encountering Christ is a retreat weekend of spiritual journey for youth in 9th through 12th grades. The TEC experience is an entire weekend for youth and led by youth. TEC is modeled on a Cursillo spiritual renewal experience. During the weekend there are a series of ten youth led talks combined with worship that lead the youth through the Ash Wednesay, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Pentecost experience.

The young people who attend will experience friendships, enjoy fun activities and come alive to their own spirituality. Teens Encountering Christ helps to build young people up spiritually. Through this experience they take responsibility for their faith life. It also prepares our youth to be leaders as the expectation is that after experiencing a TEC a youth will then take on leadership roles in subsequent TEC's. For more information about TEC, please call Michelle Klippert at St. John's Cathedral, 509-838-4277.

30-Hour Famine

The Cathedral hosts the 30-Hour Famine on all odd-numbered years. All youth in 7th through 12th grades are invited to attend. During the retreat from Friday evening to Saturday evening, the youth fast from food while filling their time with service projects that benefit the Spokane community. The youth will be contacting friends and family before the famine starts to pledge money for every hour that they are fasting. All of this money will go towards helping people who suffer from hunger. Everyday 29,000 people die from hunger throughout the world. The most recent famine was held in February of 2009.
